Sunday we met up with Mike, Debbie, Jacob, Ariel and drove up to Salem for some halloween ritual. On a gorgeous fall day we toured the pirates museum, saw a spooky deal about the witch trials, and wandered all over time.
My father was in New York City for a conference this weekend, so I drove down from Boston to hang out for a day or two. We had a nice dinner, wandered around Manhattan, through central park, saw a latin american parade, and had some bbq in time square. Good trip!
Last week I attended the CHI 2005 conference in Portland, OR. Not a bad little conference, all thing considered. I took a full day tutorial on implementing the user experience at a strategic level within an organization. This provided some very tasty fodder for further thinking on the issue. From a story about researchers reproducing an ancient roman skin cream:
During the Roman Empire, Roman women in London used to use this foundation cream. The cream is made of refined animal fat, starch and tin.
When you apply it to your face you have a smooth, white powdery texture - probably due to the starch, say [...]
Ahh nothing like a sweet summer cold to make the world shine a little brighter. Two Thursdays ago I went for a drink after work with people. I figure the alcohol intake tipped the balance in a war I didn’t know about, and my immune system collapsed under friendly fire. So I spent three miserable [...]
This article explains what that margin of error thing is that journalists take on to survey data. I thought this was pretty interesting because I used to know a fair bit about stats back in my grad school days. I taught intro to behavioral stats to undergrads, and that experience drove me from academics into [...]
