I was really excited yesterday to read Nanosolar’s Breakthrough - Solar Now Cheaper than Coal. It seems to me that solar power is the only way out of the energy crisis; all other alternative technologies slurp up energy being used for other things. With the climate change we are already undergoing, do we really want [...]
Ahoy! This week I am in the fine city of Seattle, learning all about Flex technology. I flew out on Sunday, experiencing the fine service offered by US Airways. My favorite part was when I lowered my tray table, to find an advertisement by Ford Motor Co. asking “Not enough leg room? Try a new [...]
And what a summer! Let’s see, I worked a lot. And the wife worked a lot, as usual. And we worked on the kitchen, making substantial progress. Got the painting done, and the new shelf put in, and the crown moulding. More on that when it’s done. We went on the MathWorks summer outing in [...]
Blossom’s friend Kate, whom she met in the graduate school down in Georgia, got married. We drove over to Binghamton NY on Saturday for the ceremony and reception, which was quite nice. Got up Sunday and rolled home, after a filling yet suspect breakfast at the local Friendly’s.
Today I embark on an exiting new adventure in my world of work. I have terminated by employment with Kronos Incorporated, and accepted a position with The MathWorks. The MathWorks is a software company that makes, uh, math software. I will be a Sr. Usability Specialist, which means that I will do the same kind [...]
Ah the holidays. Time for family to congregate, laugh and bicker. The wife and I flew out to the west coast to visit my family. First stop Santa Rosa, CA, where my mother hosted us for a day or 3. We feasted and shopped, and took a nice drive out into wine country on a [...]
This weekend Blossom’s sister Leah came to visit. We took a trip into Boston and strolled the Freedom Trail, and did a little cooking at home. A lovely visit was had by all.
Sunday we met up with Mike, Debbie, Jacob, Ariel and drove up to Salem for some halloween ritual. On a gorgeous fall day we toured the pirates museum, saw a spooky deal about the witch trials, and wandered all over time.
My father was in New York City for a conference this weekend, so I drove down from Boston to hang out for a day or two. We had a nice dinner, wandered around Manhattan, through central park, saw a latin american parade, and had some bbq in time square. Good trip!
Last week I attended the CHI 2005 conference in Portland, OR. Not a bad little conference, all thing considered. I took a full day tutorial on implementing the user experience at a strategic level within an organization. This provided some very tasty fodder for further thinking on the issue. One side note — the conference [...]
