Hope for Clean Power

I was really excited yesterday to read Nanosolar’s Breakthrough - Solar Now Cheaper than Coal. It seems to me that solar power is the only way out of the energy crisis; all other alternative technologies slurp up energy being used for other things. With the climate change we are already undergoing, do we really want to be using wind turbines to pull energy out of the atmosphere? So it’s great news that this technology is chugging along. It sounds like the state of the art is progressing rapidly, and that most of the issues are now in finding a cost effective way to manufacture the stuff. What will that take, 5–10 years? The question then becomes can we hang on long enough to see wide adoption. Or will the products be killed by special interest groups, mis-managed government and/or economic recession. In any case, I’m hoping that Isaac’s first car is electric, powered by hydrogen manufactured by solar power.
