Christopher Hitchens on Self-Improvement

Christopher Hitchens writes about his undertaking to better himself. Hi-larious.

Intel and Microsoft are Big Meanies

Nicholas Negroponte is doing a Good Thing. He is trying to make a really cheap laptop available to children in developing countries, so that they can get a better education. Negroponte’s project is called One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), and the XO laptop has some really cool, easy to use features. But now Intel has [...]

Forty Years and Counting…

For most people, Thanksgiving weekend is about a great feast and Black Friday. For my family, it also includes my parents’ wedding anniversary. Today is Papa Jon’s and Grandma Sarah’s 40th wedding anniversary. Over those years, they’ve had seven children and they’re now watching their eleven grandchildren grow up. I’m sure one day they’ll be [...]

Hope for Clean Power

I was really excited yesterday to read Nanosolar’s Breakthrough - Solar Now Cheaper than Coal. It seems to me that solar power is the only way out of the energy crisis; all other alternative technologies slurp up energy being used for other things. With the climate change we are already undergoing, do we really want [...]

Ten Minute Window

Mr. J. is mercurial of mood. He’s only good for about ten to fifteen minutes on any given activity, and then he starts to get fussy. So we have to change venues often. Yesterday afternoon Blossom caught him at the beginning of a playful mood, so we grabbed some video.

T-day 2007

Blossom, Isaac and I rolled up to Haverhill to spend Thanksgiving with Mike, Melissa, and the pre-nascent Aine. We cooked turducken and sundries, drank wine, played w/ Isaac, rooted for the Packers, and watched Melissa have Braxton-Hicks contractions. Fun!

A More Substantial Breakfast

At the last visit to the pediatrician Blossom found out that you can start solids at four months. So she bought some bowls and spoons and a big bucket of rice cereal. I had never seen this stuff before; apparently all you do is mix it w/ formula. Sunday morning we decided to give it [...]

Mr. J.’s New Exersaucer

We got a new toy! Blossom tracked down an exersaucer on the Craig’s List, sterilized the hell out of it, and set it up in our dinning room. Now Mr. J. has a whole ring of toys to amuse him for 10-15 minutes before his interest wanes.
Note this was shot on the crappy camera, and [...]

I Like Nancy Boy

I was trolling around the web a while back looking for shaving goods and found Nancy Boy, purveyors of premium beauty products. This is an interesting company, as can be seen from their About page:
With a renegade team of like-minded professionals, he set out to turn the beauty business’ style-over-substance business model on its head. [...]

Patriots over Colts

Now that was a game! I’ve been a bit caught up in watching the Patriots kick the snot out of the other football teams, and so I was looking forward to this game. I squeezed the grilling of some pork tenderloin in at half-time, and enjoyed a delicious dinner while the Pats overcame some horrendous [...]
