Size of a Jumbo Shrimp

Welcome to week 13 of pregnancy. Last week at the genetic counseling we signed up to do one extra test which required that Blossom give some blood. The technician apparently became confused and ended up drawing 10 vials of blood. Blossom is weak and frail, and thus was sporting a gumball sized lump in her elbow for a couple of days. Then the office called and said the still confused tech had mislabeled all the vials and now they couldn’t process the test. This filled Blossom with rage (Baby too), and so we decided to bail on that particular test. We did enjoy the results of our other tests which showed probabilities in the .02–.03% range for the more common chromosomal disorders.

Blossom had a standard exam today, and everything is looking good. She got to listen to Baby’s heartbeat, and the doc described how her uterus has moved up and her ovaries have shifted over. All other organs continue to reside in their usual spots; who knows for how long. This week Blossom has been having an occasional stabbing pain or two, fairly frequently. The doctor said that these are the result of ligaments stretching out as the uterus grows.

Ever since we saw Baby gulping fluid on the ultrasound she(?) feels more like a real person. I have been saying hello in the mornings and evenings, just in case. I can’t remember if she has a nervous system yet, but why risk it?
