My special lady baked a pie yesterday. No particular reason; we had some apples that needed using. Now I’m driving home from work today and I began to experience an anticipation. A desire that time would just jump ahead an hour, and I would be sitting at the table shoveling in pie as fast as it would go.
And then I started thinking about the sum of human knowledge that equals a pie. It is an endless network of science. To produce the ingredients you have thousands of years of horticulture to deal with. To make the tools you have metallurgy, mining, mass production techniques, measurement science, refrigeration, Pyrex science (I made that one up). The automotive industry, economics, all invented to make a good pie.
And so tonight, when I am wallowing in pie goodness, I know that I am wallowing on the shoulders of giants.
